Magnetic Phenomena on the Solar Surface using 3D radiative MHD simulations
In my talk, I will concentrate on the investigation of magnetic phenomena on the solar surface using the realistic 3D MHD simulation code STAGGER. I will touch upon three different topics, mainly focusing on the estimation of the brightness contribution of the strong magnetic field component present in the quiet Sun. Since a possible long term variation of the quiet Sun magnetic field is under debate, a good estimate of the brightness contribution could help to evaluate its potential influence on the Earth’s climate. The second part will focus on the question of existence of local dynamo processes on the solar surface, and in the third, we look at how subsurface processes influence the time scale of magnetic flux cancellation in active regions.
