HAO Colloquium - The Fascinating Solar Active Region 12673

Speaker: Xudong Sun, University of Hawaii

Solar active region 12673 of September 2017 produced two most intense flares of Cycle 24. Its evolution was closely monitored by many observatories, which yielded observations with significant implication. In this talk, I will review selected results from the literature. I will also describe our work on its magnetic field properties, with a focus on the bald patch topology, its formation, and its disintegration during the X9 flare.
