Peter Gilman, HAO Senior Scientist Emeritus, has been chosen by the American Astronomical Society to be a Legacy Fellow, or member of the first class of Fellows the AAS has chosen. He joins about 200 other members of the AAS, out of a total membership of about 9000, receiving this honor. Other scientific societies that NCAR has many members in, such as the American Meteorological Society and the American Geophysical Union, have honored their members with the naming of Fellows for several decades, but the AAS previously had not had this category of honor. In subsequent years, the AAS will solicit nominations for Fellow each year.
