HAO welcomes one of its newest affiliate scientists, Dr. Ineke De Moortel, who is a recently promoted Professor and Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews, Scotland (UK). Ineke leads and conducts research in coronal heating and coronal seismology and the structure and dynamics of the magnetic field in the solar corona. Her expertise in coronal physics is broad, encompassing observations, data analysis and modeling. She is a member of the scientific advisory board for the Coronal Solar Magnetism Observatory (COSMO).
During Ineke’s affiliate scientist appointment, she is contributing to NCAR’s and HAO’s imperative activity to develop and provide state-of-the-art observational facilities, notably COSMO, and to HAO’s Frontier program I (magnetic flux transport through the chromosphere and the impact of its short-term variability on the Sun-Earth system). Ineke will be working with Scott McIntosh, Steve Tomczyk, Yuhong Fan and other members of the Solar Transients and Space Weather section, on coronal seismology and chromospheric and coronal diagnostics of solar magnetism, in line with the above strategic priorities.
Most of Ineke’s spare time is taken up by looking after her two young sons. If there is any time (and energy!) remaining, she enjoys running, hillwalking and sailing.
