Ryan French

Ryan French is a visiting scientist in the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Ryan is from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL) at University College London (UCL), where he is a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Sarah Matthews and Prof. Lidia van Driel-Gesztelyi. He is a Newkirk Fellow at HAO, working in collaboration with Dr. Phil Judge. Ryan’s research investigates the explosive release and transport of energy in solar flares. In particular, he uses spectroscopy and spectropolarization to probe for evidence of the nature of magnetic reconnection within flaring current sheets, using CoMP, EIS and IRIS.
