She is one of the pioneers in the application of modern data assimilation methods to solar tachocline and dynamo models for simulating and forecasting solar activity. She regularly guides summer undergraduate and graduate students on solar research projects, and recently has taught a full credit course on space weather and climate at Lyndon State College under the UVisit program of UCAR.

Dr. Dikpati received her PhD in 1996 from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She has been at NCAR since the fall of 1996 when she assumed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Advanced Study Program.
