Austin Monaghan is currently conducting research in the High Altitude Observatory, at NCAR, as a student assistant. He is studying white light polarization and Si X (1.43 micron) emission of the solar corona. Specifically, he is analyzing data from the July 2, 2019 total solar eclipse in Chile. The white light experiment was performed using novel pixel-matched polarizer ccd technology permitting snapshot polarimetry at a substantially reduced cost. This technology could prove to be highly effective in future deployments. The infrared experiment is a glimpse of the scarcely documented Si X emission line at higher resolution and wider field of view. Characterizing the scientific interest of this emission line will provide researchers with an expanded toolkit for coronal magnetometry.
