Affiliate Scientists

HAO welcomes one of its newest affiliate scientists, Dr. Ineke De Moortel, who is a recently promoted Professor and Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews, Scotland (UK).

Silvano Fineschi is an affiliate scientist in the High Altitude Observatory for the National Center for Atmospheric Research. He is currently a scientist at the Observatory of Turin.

Viggo Hansteen has been an HAO affiliate scientistsince 2011. Outside of science Viggo is a real competitor, participating in a great number of outdoor activities including skiing, soccer, and cycling.

Joe Huba is a Senior Research Scientist at Syntek Technologies in Virginia, who collaborates with HAO/NCAR on modeling the ionosphere, plasmasphere, and magnetosphere.

Haosheng Lin has been an HAO affiliate scientist since 2003. He is an astronomer in the Solar Physics group of the Institute for Astronomy, University of Hawaii.

Viacheslav (Slava) Merkin is a physicist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics lab, working with magnetohydrodynamic simulations and analysis of processes in the magnetosphere and the solar wind.

Marty Mlynczak has been an HAO affiliate scientist since 2000. He is a senior research scientist in the Climate Science Branch at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.

Mark Rast has been an HAO affiliate scientist since 2006. He was an ASP postdoc from 1993 to 1995, and an HAO scientist from 1998 to 2005.

Javier Trujillo Bueno is an affiliate scientist at HAO/NCAR. He has a doctorate in Physics from the University of Göttingen (Germany) and is a Research Professor of the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), destined to the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC).

Mei Zhang has been an HAO affiliate scientist since 2004. She is a professor at the National Astronomical Observatory of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing, and chief scientist at the Huairou Solar Observing Station located in the outskirts of Beijing.
