Mauna Loa Solar Observatory (MLSO)
Mauna Loa Solar Observatory (MLSO) acquires unique observations of the Sun’s atmosphere to support NCAR’s goal to address critical gaps in understanding the Sun-Earth system and to provide observations to reduce damage and disruption from space weather hazards.

UPDATE (2026-06-18): We have hit a delay in restoring full power to MLSO. An inverter failure has pushed back the installation of the new solar array, and we now expect to be fully operational in July rather than June. A replacement inverter is on order and a temporary power solution is also being explored, which could allow UCoMP to come online sooner. We will share more as soon as we have an update. Stay tuned.
